Climate disasters displaced more people than conflicts in 2020

New figures published by the Norwegian Refugee Council’s Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre (IDMC) show that more people were displaced by weather disasters in 2020 than by violent conflicts. For instance, if a woman is displaced from her home due to political violence and settles somewhere else, where she is displaced by a weather disaster , two displacements are recorded. How to Recover From a Natural Disaster

Environmental News Network

Natural disasters are among the most traumatic and frightening events human beings face: unpredictable, often inscrutable, and bearing down upon their victims the full brunt of the planet’s awe-inspiring power. The actual force of a storm or flood gets the most attention, but it’s the aftermath of a natural disaster that encompasses the essential work of picking up the pieces, caring for the afflicted, and repairing the damage—physical and psychological, both—that’s been incurred.
