Who's Killing Renewable Energy?

Green (Living) Review

A promising offshore wind energy project has languished on the East Coast for 15 years—and its enemies range from a Koch brother to the Kennedys. In 2001, Jim Gordon, a Boston-based energy entrepreneur who played a critical role in the development of natural gas–fired power plants in the 1990s, was searching for a way to produce energy on the East Coast. He began working on what would become the Cape Wind Energy Project in Nantucket Sound, off the Massachusetts shore.

Denmark to end their reliance on fossil fuels, aims for 100 percent renewable energy in 2050

Green Blog

The new red and green government in Denmark wants to end the country’s reliance on fossil fuels. In a proposal presented to the parliament last week the Danish government laid out their new and bold energy plan. By 2050 Denmark should get 100% of their energy from renewable energy sources. The proposed energy plan would have four central deadlines. This target alone would cut Denmark’s greenhouse gas emissions with 35% based on 1990 levels.

Britain must do more to secure wind energy jobs

Green (Living) Review

by Michael Smith (Veshengro) Britain, as a nation, is punching well below its weight when it comes to offshore wind, risking missing legally-binding targets and the opportunity to secure tens of thousands of jobs. The paper says rapid expansion of the sector is needed to meet EC targets of 15% Britain's energy to come from renewable energy by 2020. Wind can provide clean, sustainable energy, while attracting investment and creating employment.

Europe installed twice as much wind energy capacity in 2014 as coal and gas combined

Green Blog

New data from the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) shows that wind energy installations outperformed both coal and gas last year in the European Union. Across the 28 EU member states, the wind industry built a total of 11,791 MW to the European grid. The wind energy capacity increased by 3.8 Wind power now cover 10 percent of the EU’s electricity consumption, up from 8% the year before.

After record levels last year, world wind power is set to break new records in 2013

Green Blog

Even amid policy uncertainty in major wind power markets, wind developers still managed to set a new record for installations in 2012, with 44,000 megawatts of new wind capacity worldwide. With total capacity exceeding 280,000 megawatts, wind farms generate carbon-free electricity in more than 80 countries, 24 of which have at least 1,000 megawatts. China installed some 13,000 megawatts of wind in 2012, according to the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC).

Wind energy developers installed a record 41,000 megawatts of electricity-generating capacity in 2011, bringing the world total to 238,000 megawatts. With more than 80 countries now harnessing the wind, there is enough installed wind power capacity worldwide to meet the residential electricity needs of 380 million people at the European level of consumption. China’s ambitious Wind Base program will help ensure a widening lead for some years to come.

Malta to Get State-of-the-Art Floating Wind Farm from Hexicon

Green Prophet

Sweden’s Hexicon to supply Malta with 10% of its electricity with a platform-mounting floating wind farm. Despite the fact that the EU is willing to fund renewable energy in its climate laggard states, using cap & trade revenues from the sale of emission allowances, Malta still gets only 1% of its electricity from renewable energy. As an EU member Malta is required to produce at least 10% of its energy from renewables by 2020.

Why Do We Still Use Fossil Fuels & Can Non-Renewable Sources of Energy Be Replaced?

Greentumble

As users, we are mainly interested in having a constant supply of energy which is also affordable so we can go on with our life. Where the energy comes from is rarely something we are aware of unless it carries financial implications. But the reality is that the majority of our energy needs are met by forms of non-renewable energy , in particular fossil fuels. Why do we insist on using fossil fuels instead of switching to other (less-harmful) kinds of energy?

EU Likely To Exceed Twenty Percent Renewable Goal Of 2020

Eco Friendly Daily

Countries around the globe have set forth various goals for renewable energy and reducing overall energy demands. The goals vary depending upon the country in question, but in Europe the European Union has collectively set a goal of attaining twenty percent of their energy needs from renewables by 2020. The expected renewable energy generation for the year of 2020 was recently analyzed by the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA).
