When peaceful protest is made impossible (illegal) violent revolution becomes inevitable

Green (Living) Review

This is more than a recipe for disaster and one that almost makes violent revolution and change of system by means other than peaceful and non-violent ones inevitable. While change brought about through non-violent actions as Gandhi stood for should always be preferable when those become regarded as terrorism and handled as such the people are left with little other choice but to change their course of actions and the angle of attack, so to speak.

The Communist Manifesto – Book Review

Green (Living) Review

While one may not agree – necessarily – with everything as I, for one, do not believe in political parties any more than I believe in religions and I also believe that we must return to a much different life and society, much of what Marx and Engels wrote in the Manifesto is as valid today as it was in their days. Political change on its own may not lead to social change in the same way as social change will not – necessarily – lead to political change.

The people must liberate themselves

Green (Living) Review

by Michael Smith (Veshengro) No organization of the working class – how ever well intentioned – and especially no party in the political sense can do this task for them. This liberation is not a liberation at all but just a jump from the frying pan into the fire, exchanging one master, the capitalist ruling class, for another, the political party. politics socialism society

Personal Transition

Green (Living) Review

Unless we, each one of us, has a personal transition to a new way, which to some degree, actually, is an old way, of doing things and working with rather than against Nature, change cannot be brought about. Gandhi said “be the change you want to see in the world” and this means that we have to become the change and not wait for a change to be brought about from the outside. You must be the change and also the light.

Green Prophet

Iraq and Libya For Eco-Seeking Bravehearts

Green Prophet

But if you are looking for really unusual travel destinations in today’s politically changing Middle East, consider places like Iraq or Libya, where archeological sites intermingle with unfinished ecological projects started by the country’s former strong man, Muamar Gadaffi. Iraqi historical sites are many, but the security situation is still risky.

Wounded Water: Iraqis Pour Their Art Out at Venice Biennale

Green Prophet

Art and culture evolve alongside economic, environmental, and socio-political changes, so it is telling that artists, documentarians, photographers, and writers in the Middle East are becoming more aware of our degraded natural resources. AU is one among many art pieces on display at Iraq’s first pavilion at the Venice Biennale.

A POST COPENHAGEN WORLD

Green (Living) Review

by Michael Smith (Veshengro) According to MPs, business leaders and environmental figures at CIWEM’s Dinner Debate held in February 2010, public belief in climate change is waning in the wake of the Copenhagen Summit that failed to deliver. The unsettled science has also increased public doubts about the effects of climate change, with many of us only worried about a loss in quality of life as the supply chain breaks down in developing countries.

Middle East Illusions Change Reality

Green Prophet

Their optical illusions convey a powerful political message: Give us back our streets. Decades after it’s demise, the Berlin Wall illustrates how a flashpoint for political debate can evolve into a powerful stage for creative discourse. In the Middle East, using street art to comment on social and political issues can be a much more dangerous crime. Click here to view the embedded video.

Walt Reid on Conservation Bright Spots & Systems Versus Species Thinking

Nature Conservancy - Science

Conservation science has changed a lot in the past two decades. In a new occasional series on Cool Green Science — Green Giants — we’re asking some of the people who have helped drive that change to weigh in with their thoughts on where we’ve been, where we are going, and what new science we need to get there. . Walt Reid: Over longer time scales, the biggest problem is certainly climate change (and ocean acidification ). Climate change keeps me up at night.

Barring some unforeseen political change, we expect they will trim emissions as intended through 2020. Legal and political constraints made rebates impossible. To win passage, proponents of the bill had to include a provision that allows the governor to suspend the program for a year in case of “extraordinary circumstances, catastrophic events, or threat of significant economic harm”—terms that a science-denying future governor might exploit for political purposes.

There’s A Place for Us

Parking politics is a Gordian Knot: visceral territoriality about free or underpriced curb parking, intense political pressure for abundant off-street parking quotas , and a resulting cascade of absurd and pernicious consequences —consequences that make parking quotas a hidden bane of cities. Increasing the pay-parking share depends on a political change that I’ll discuss in the next article, but it also depends on changing how cities charge for parking.

If not—that is if you can’t recognize that American climate policy will involve American politics—then I’d argue you’re not really serious about fixing climate change. But here’s a great essay on why we need political change, not just personal change. At Seattle’s latitude, fully dark night is currently lasting only two hours. At Bellingham’s, there is no fully dark night right now. That’s what Cliff Mass says.

Fight Climate Change: Live the Good Life

The Green Changemakers

by Colin Beavan Colin Beavan and his family spent a year changing their lives for the environment. when it comes to climate change. Our obstacle is, in many ways, whether we in the United States have the cultural and political will to adopt the scientific solution. The low-hanging fruit in climate change is energy efficiency —finding ways to use less. Like climate change, it was a problem that could not be solved without the engagement of everyone.

What makes an entrepreneurial ecosystem?

The Green Changemakers

When there’s neither capital nor know-how to start and grow companies, rebellion finds other ways: political movements, social activism, artistic creation, and crime. It gives birth to great art, it drives social and political changes, it certainly stirs up anger, but it doesn’t help build great business empires. Decades of deregulation of financial markets have revealed how powerful finance is when it comes to forcing change upon companies or even whole societies.

Blind faith or sound science?

Eco_Living

But, never one to eschew a bandwagon, here's my take on faith vs science on climate change. First of all, take the science of, say, climate change. I once heard a Met Office climatologist tell an audience "I often get asked at parties whether I believe in climate change. It [climate change] is simply a physical fact." Thirdly, there is political outlook. People's politics change, so this can't be faith either.
