Study: Offshore Wind Energy Capable Of Powering East Coast

Eco Friendly Daily

According to the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, the United States has at least 4,150 gigawatts of potential wind energy along the coastlines. Despite this, the country has yet to establish their first offshore wind farm, making them decades behind some European nations. The project expected to be the first, Cape Wind off of Massachusetts, is still facing legal battles and an unclear completion time. billion project would include 130 wind turbines.

With wind energy projects stalled, MA Governor proposes landmark bill

Green Life Smart Life

With more than a third of the major wind-energy projects in Massachusetts stalled by lawsuits or permit appeals, the Patrick administration has proposed a landmark bill that would streamline the state’s appeals process and make it possible to win approval of such projects much more quickly. Massachusetts now generates less than 1 percent of the nation’s wind energy, about 9 megawatts, enough to power only about 2,700 homes.

State Of Virginia Looking To Be First In U.S. Offshore Wind Energy

Eco Friendly Daily

After years of struggling to become the first offshore wind farm in the United States, Cape Wind in Massachusetts is still battling to be first. After receiving governmental approval and the first federal leases for offshore wind in 2010, the farm is waiting to be built. Cape Wind is looking as though they will be the first utility-scale once operations begin at an unknown date. Wind Power

U.S. Still Not Tapping Into Major Offshore Wind Potential

Eco Friendly Daily

The United States continues to struggle to launch their offshore wind sector. It has taken years to get the Cape Wind project off of Massachusetts, expected to be the nation’s first offshore wind farm, to be finalized and approved, only to have it meet continual legal battles. The project has yet to be constructed and it is not yet known when the wind farm will be operational. Despite the slow establishment of the offshore wind sector, the U.S.

Who's Killing Renewable Energy?

Green (Living) Review

A promising offshore wind energy project has languished on the East Coast for 15 years—and its enemies range from a Koch brother to the Kennedys. In 2001, Jim Gordon, a Boston-based energy entrepreneur who played a critical role in the development of natural gas–fired power plants in the 1990s, was searching for a way to produce energy on the East Coast. Gordon is optimistic about the project, but some experts and analysts think Cape Wind may never break ground.

A Season on the Wind: Inside the World of Spring Migration is Kaufmann’s latest book, being published just in time for the North American northward migration in April and May – that time when, he says, “the migrants from the tropics have arrived in a rush, creating that glorious sense of diversity and abundance, the sense that anything is possible in the perfection of springtime.”. The sense of motion and raw energy is irresistible,” he says. How blessed can one guy be?

Clean Energy: Making Better Economic Sense and Keeping the Heat On During the Polar Vortex

Sierra Club Compass

Clean energy continues to make the news nationwide as solar and wind power continue expanding at an exponential rate. The solar plan is a 100-megawatt project from Geronimo Energy that would span 20 sites across the state. Minnesota's Public Utilities Commission must still approve the plan, but it's great news for clean energy and clean air and water.   This Minnesota news is the latest in the string of good clean energy stories.

Big Clean Energy News Just Keeps Coming: "Solar is Most Economical Option," Says Energy CEO

Sierra Club Compass

On the heels of last week's release of carbon pollution safeguards from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which requires future power plants to deal with their climate-disrupting carbon pollution, news is rolling in from across the U.S. about massive new clean energy projects that are meeting America ' s energy demand – and giving dirty fossil fuels a run for their money in the marketplace. Wind prices, for example, are down 50 percent since 2009.

European energy developers like Statoil and Dong Energy are making big investments to bring projects to American waters. Last year in Massachusetts, Gov. Wind power has finally become viable for a number of delicately interlaced reasons. I should add a question mark to the end of that post title.

Grid Parity in the Arab World: Still Far Away

Green Prophet

Grid parity, the point when the cost of power generated from renewable energy resources become equal or cheaper than conventional power costs, is around the corner for many countries. In the Arab world however, the gap between fossil-based and renewable generated power is wider than anywhere. In 2006, Abu Dhabi initiated a commitment to sustainability and embraced renewable and sustainable energy solutions. Khatib, Arab Energy Forum, 2010).
