Murray Bookchin, in The Ecology of Freedom , posits that in hunter-gatherer society there was / is no official hierarchy. Just to be clear, I’m only talking about institutional, power hierarchies here, not hierarchies based on beauty, knowledge, intelligence, ability, respect etc.
