Why Yoga Teacher Training is Worth It—even if you Never Teach a Single Class.

Elephant Journal

I put so much pressure on myself it took me a long time to actually understand that my training wasn’t so much about a new profession as it was about my own personal growth. I wasn’t destined to be a yoga teacher, although I clung to the idea. I was afraid by not following through with it that it meant I was a failure.

An endorsement (or two)

Environmental Economics

I look forward to using it in my class next term – I usually start class off with a survey of the students, and it will be fun now to compare their answers to those of the profession. From the inbox: I just read your article in REEP with the survey of environmental economists. Thanks for the article! And I really need to remember to check your blog more often…  I always mean to do that, and then just somehow it gets away from me…  but that’s a great resource too!

The Conservative Bias in Economics?

Environmental Economics

He does single out my profession, economics, as being better than most social science departments in representing conservative viewpoints:  “Economists remain influential.   But the extent to which conservative ideology is represented within the profession is much larger than a simple tally of the number of conservatives versus liberals indicates.     That is done all the time within the profession.

Don't mainstream economists already embrace benefit-cost analysis?

The kind of empirical analysis now taking over the econ profession -- often called the "quasi-experimental" approach -- isn't that hard to understand. At Appstate (and many other places ) we further encourage students to take econometrics and then in their senior seminar class they test economic theories with empirical methods using data they have collected themselves (mostly secondary) and examine effects sizes they have estimated themselves.
