Earlier this week, my West Virginia Governor Earl Ray Tomblin said the following about whether people should be drinking the water in Charleston and downstream: "It's your decision.I'm Even less reassuring, the news came out Wednesday that there was another mysterious chemical spill in that leak , and officials are now testing to make sure the water treatment facility removed that chemical. Now they're telling us not to drink the water?

not linked From msnbc Tests on leading brands of bottled water turned up a variety of contaminants, including cancer-linked chemicals three times higher than California's health standard, according to a study released Wednesday by an environmental advocacy group. The findings challenge the popular impression — and marketing pitch — that bottled water is purer than tap water, the researchers say. And most of the detected contaminants are common in tap water, too.

Recovery from WV Coal Chemical Spill Continues - What Next?

More than 300,000 people in the WV capital of Charleston and downstream counties have been without water for eight days and counting. A tank of this chemical, located immediately above the largest drinking water intake in WV, leaked.   Some residents have been told they can start flushing out their water systems while others are still using bottled water for drinking, cooking and bathing.

In 1998, seven years after the last inspection of the Freedom Industries chemical storage site on the Elk River, Jen-Osha Buysee founded Aurora Lights. Jen-Osha, her staff and a band of volunteers spend their time raising awareness about the dangers of mountaintop removal coal mining, promoting local arts and engaging in educational programs for youth in West Virginia. Water, clean and pure from the tap, seems to be an undeniable truth.
