The New Economy Challenge: Implications for Higher Education
It was a risky experiment, however, because the capacity for self-awareness gives us an ego that can run out of control if it forgets that it exists only as part of a larger whole. As our human consciousness was first awakening, our capacities for conscious self-direction grew. A new economy requires a new approach to education.

A Better Way of Making a Living
healthy self reliant local community focusing on each other and on giving support will provide greater cradle-to-grave security than our "all about me" culture. Produce what you need now and some reserves, but not a large surplus that can be concentrated. We can't go back to Homo hunter-gatherer. Is there another way forward?

Maui Utopia
Then consider our 4 or 5-day supply of food and our inability to produce fuel and food locally - why do we tolerate this state of affairs? This sacrifice of self-reliance in exchange for exportable crops like sugar and pineapple has resulted in dead plantations, depleted soils, poisoned water and a minimum of locally grown food.

What is permaculture?
Permaculture seeks to foster the skills, confidence and imagination to enable people to become self-reliant, and to seek creative solutions to problems on a global or local scale. I like to think that permaculture is a way of life as the ideas touch on most aspects of everyday living. OBSERVING YOUR SURROUNDINGS. WORKING TOGETHER.

Making a Life (Green Living)
Our currency is composed of joy, happiness, friendship, satisfying self-reliance, peace. As it turns out, much of our income-producing work does not command high compensation. In fact, many of us are working ourselves to death. We’d argue that it’s measuring a false sense of prosperity. Spend less, live more.

It involves a five part agenda: clean up Wall Street, play by market rules, self-finance the real economy, measure what we really want, and convert to debt-free money. We might well continue to track GDP, a measure of economic throughput, as a quite useful indicator of the economic cost of producing a given level of health and well-being.
