Out OF EDEN - A Natural INSULATION CHOICE
Now, thanks to a new innovation from Second Nature UK Ltd, our homes can also benefit from this traditional keep-warm classic. Edenbloc 35 is a new type of rigid insulation made predominantly from recycled wool and can be used in many internal situations, including wall lining, between rafters and timber studs and under rafters. The natural protein fibres in EdenBloc 35 boards also absorb and ‘fix’ airborne pollutants helping to create a happier, healthier home environment. Second Nature‘s Commercial Director Mark Lynn feels the product bridges an important gap for homeowners

PickupPal Takes the Blind-Date Feeling out of Ride Sharing
The service is also publicly promoted by organizations like the Sierra Club , Green Nexxus , Aids Walk Los Angeles , Clean Air Foundation, Home Depot, Virgin and multiple other companies and events.

Store I Love: Muji
Luxurious, sure is. This was one of the few times I remember stocking my suitcase with all the little bottles to take them home. A few years ago, I had the opportunity to stay at the City Club Hotel in NYC when it just opened. This was one of hotelier Jeff Klein’s first properties that celebrated the idea of less-is-more, the idea a hotel could be a pied-a-terre of sorts and not feel like a giant, old convention center many mega-hotels feel like today. One of the amenities I remembered staying there was the liberal use of Hermes bath products in the bathroom.

A Home Tour
In the April issue of Philadelphia Magazine , my newly renovated home is featured in a story called “Seo Cool.” 8221; It’s a fun piece that shows all the eco renovations that I did to them home and also lists all of my secret sources in Bucks County, PA where I like to dine, shop, and find junk store treasures.
The art wall…with pieces ranging from a portrait of Nelson Mandela from famed photographer Kwaku Alston to lithographs Over at their website, they posted a bit of the story along with a slide show. So, I thought it would be OK to share the

LEED for Homes Point by Point: Innovation & Design
Professional Credentialed with respect to LEED for Homes is apparently not available yet although we are using one (I believe this is in effect for applications made since mid-2009). Having installed Control4 for home automation and Lutron for lighting control, our system is comprehensive, managing both individual loads and grouped system loads. The third point we applied for was our Innovation & Design :: 9 points achieved out of 11 points available ::
We achieved 9 out of the 11 available points in this category.

Why Energy Management in the Home Will Be Mainstream
2009 is certainly the “ Year of the Smart Grid ”, as dubbed by Greentech Media GTM Research but there are many wondering how exactly Smart Grid technology is going to be adopted where arguably it matters most – the customer’s home. It might be higher or lower but aside from the general kw used and price per kilowatt, you receive virtually no information about specific usage in your home. While advancements in power delivery are absolutely necessary to ensure the grid is able to evolve with the growing demands in supply and meter data management along with energy storage are rapidly expanding industries, there are several good reasons why the general population will need to be on board with this transformation.

A Home Away from Home
It’s no revelation here that I travel a lot for my job. There have been weeks where I’m in criss-crossing around the country from a TV shoot in a garden to a store personal appearance up East to a business meeting in San Francisco to a meeting in Texas with JCPenney and then finally back home. And even though hotel living may sound like a dream—room service, housekeeping, a fluffy bed—it can be draining because you’re basically living out of a suitcase.
A few weeks ago, I stumbled upon this hotel deal newsletter announcing the Palihouse Hotel in Hollywood, CA and I was intrigued. The concept is simple: each room is designed to feel like a pied-a-terre, complete with a kitchen, washer/dryer, spacious living room and—here was the kicker—free Wifi and parking. Plus, the rate that was offered was about 50% less than my normal hotel, so I took a chance. Why not? Glad I did.

Reducing and Centralizing Wiring for a LEED Home
Immediately, my mind focused on lighting control and HVAC control, which together account for around 90 percent of the energy consumption in an average home.
But it made me realize for the first time that installing a system in a green home isn’t started by making “green” product choices. It starts with the home systems’ design. When Kimberly and Joe Hageman approached me to work on their Green Life Smart Life project, they told me their goal was to show how green lifestyles and digital lifestyles could happily coexist. Leviton structured wiring boxes

My Inspiration Wall
I’m working away on a home collection project and these just keep me thinking about new colors, patterns, ideas, etc. And polaroids of some of my favorite magazine shoots, including a houseboat story with supermodel Angela Lindvall for Organic Style and shooting actress Mary Steenburgen for Country Home magazine. Tags: Home Desig If I had to pick one room in the house that I spend the most time in, I would say the craft room is hands down the #1 place I’m working away morning, afternoon and night.
